The public Polish television Telewizja Polska SA (TVP) launched a free-to-air platform on ASTRA on 15th September 2009. TVP has therefore extended its satellite capacity contracts for the use of two transponders at ASTRA’s main orbital position 19.2 degrees East. TVP has been using this capacity since 2005. TVP is the largest public TV broadcaster in Central and Eastern Europe. ››

On 17th of May 2010 Cyfrowy Polsat published its financial results for the first quarter of 2010. At the end of the reporting period the operator recorded 3,239,755 subscribers (15.6% increase compared to the end of March 2009). Number of subscribers stood at 2,608,101 for Familijny package (an increase of 12.8%) and represented 80.5% of the total subscriber base while number of subscribers of Mini and Max packages rose to 631,654 (28.7%), which represents 19.5% of whole subscriber base. more ››

Revenues from pay-TV service platform n increased by 33 million PLN or 32% in comparison with the previous year. The main factor was the subscriber base which increased by a 32,000 net to 724,000 in the first quarter of this year reaching a rate of growth at 33% and ensuring the same rate of revenue growth. On 14th of May Polish Television (TVP) has planned changes of technical parameters of channels available on satellite Astra 1KR (19.2°E). On tp. 59 on the frequency 10.862 GHz, pol. H, DVB-S2 transmission will be replaced by a transmission in DVB-S. New channels such as TV Trwam, Radio Maryja and TV Belsat will appear. According to information published by Liberty Global, in the first quarter of 2010 cable operator UPC Polska added 34,600 digital TV customers, reaching 264,000. 38,000 subscribers resigned from analogue television, giving the number 749,100. This means that in the first quarter of 2010, UPC Polska lost a total of 3,500 subscribers of television services and at the end of that period had 1,013,100 subscribers.
